Setting up a Minecraft Server on Windows

1. Prerequisites

  • Windows 10 or 11
  • Java 17 or later installed
  • At least 4GB RAM available
  • Stable internet connection and ofc brain 🧠

2. Download Server Files

  1. Visit the official Minecraft server download page
  2. Download the server.jar file
  3. Create a new folder for your server (name it whatever you want)
  4. Move the server.jar file into that folder

3. Initial Setup

  1. Create a batch file to run the server:
    java -Xmx2G -Xms2G -jar server.jar nogui
  2. Run the batch file — a eula.txt file will appear
  3. Open it, change false to true, save it
  4. Run the batch again, your server should launch!
  5. Port forward (TCP 25565) if you're hosting for friends
